Good to know this thread was just an "experiment" then.

Well, I hope you realize the reason people responded sarcastically is because you had no point.

Next time, pose a real question, and you may get a real answer.

An interesting experiment, at that. I enjoyed reading the posts nonetheless, so huzzah!

To Risky Ranger: Hell yeah people take this game too seriously. However, I've found that the more serious players are the PvP players. Me and my friend have been guild-hopping for awhile now because every damned guild we found had serious douchebags in them. He got kicked out of our one guild we've been in awhile because he didn't think EW would win the tourney!

So yes, there are quite a handful of people who play this game too seriously.

There was nothing vague about (Do people take GW too seriously?). It could be answered with a simple yes or no. The content of the post was the vague part. The reason I got some sarcastic responses is because if you read the posts on a regular basis you will see that is a regular occurance with some people. A majority answer the questions with an honest answer, but you always see the peolple who just like to put others down. I thank the good people who use the forum for constructive purposes whether it is agreement or criticism.

Ahhhh yes the internet...what a ride. I saw nothing vague in your question. People sometimes forget to have fun while playing a game and that ruins it for alot of others that are on the team.

You know people take the law to seriously.

SCrew those pedophile laws
______________

People take it seriously because

a) They worked for something hard,or still are

I myself had gw for about 1 and a half years now and dont have those Elite armors yet, getting to it bit by bit.

However if I ever get really close and people start bugging me as soon as im almost there I'd be pissed.

In games there can be chores or there can be fun, for me elite armor is a chore so I would take it seriously if someone messed it up for me.

Some people Love the ease of a game so if theres a nerf there pissed because now its not as easy.

i got started when a friend on another non GW forum said get the preorder and i will pay for it if you dont like it.

from early beta on i have played for fun.

over multiple accounts i have just under 2000 hours total and several presears with birthday minipets.

i play hero/hench so i can leave at any time for something more important.

example if the cat wants to play/be patted the henchies are parked to live or die and i find out later when i come back.

if it is not fun at the moment i turn it off and do something else.

it is a game that is fun, but still only a game

Hi Risky Ranger,

Its good to know I'm not the only one out there who plays video games for fun (apparently thats a thing of the past). However, you have to remember. This is the internet here. To some people, the internet is serious business. In some cases, its their LIFE.

If this really was the point of the thread, then you could have just asked the question in general chat in LA and you would have gotten the same response. The community needs constructive threads in order to provide constructive answers. Your thread is like throwing a stone in water and watching the ripples form - ripples are made, but the stone sinks to the bottom...

Why don't you start another, more descriptive thread about how people take the game in a negative way? There's lots and lots of threads about those.

Competitiveness is 'married' into competitive games.

People who don't action what Loviatar does are the ones who have the issue. There's nothing wrong with taking the game too seriously, but when you start running other people down amongst your own frustration, then it is advised that you walk away altogether and return when you've calmed down.

I know you said that people are giving sarcastic comments, but unless you give your first post an indication of what you would consider 'too serious' then any comment that you think is sarcastic is actually valid, all because you didn't give better details in your first post. Heck, there are RP guilds out there, you can very easily say that those people take the game too seriously, but I like playing with them, so the issue is to one's own, really.

Well, I did some missions today, first with a level 20 monk, and second with a level 17 necro. Every team love me with the monk, even kick people for adding me, specially when they see my titles. BUT, everybody kick me when I try to enter a team with the lvl 17 necro, so, YES, people is taking this GAME to seriously. I ended doing the mission with 7 people, one of them level 15, only one level 20 (note I am talking about difficult Cantha mission)

You take a game too seriously if you post on forums about it.

I'd guess it's a matter of temperament. Perfectionists are perfectionists are perfectionists. Slackers are slackers are slackers.

It's nice to think you can escape from yourself, but it's rarely true. All the same faults and manias and strengths usually carry through.

Hmph. IMO, it was a troll question, designed to illicit an emotional response.

And, I'm sorry, but "Do people take GW too seriously?" is totally vague.

Do people take life too seriously? Do people take their job too seriously?

Without example or definitions, you're going to get widely different reponses. For some people, playing the game more than 2 hours a day is "too seriously." For others, people who "role-play" their characters are "too serious."

Obviously, the people who shout "noob" and run around insulting people in-game are annoying... but is the problem they take the game "too seriously" or do they not take the game serious enough.

But, if you think this was a contructive question, let me pose another, very similar question and see what you think:

Is Guild Wars fun?

I beg to differ.

The answer you would have gotten in LA would be something like

I'm gonna say that there are exceptions to that. I frequent these forums a lot, but I haven't been playing the game a lot.

And Mordakai, why are you so upset at this thread? I haven't seen his post as trolling at all. It seemed rather modest, to me, and it's actually sparking some decent posts. Vague questions can lead to good discussion.

Seeing how much time and effort I've put into this - yes I take it seriously. Too seriously. (-: But I love it.

((lol, trolls, get your farm builds on!))

Seeing as I recently breached 4,000 hours... Uh... maybe? I've seen so many people "take the game too seriously" and others demand that players who get into something this harshly relax, etc. A big chunk of that time for me though was spent just goofing around or being AFK.

There's plenty enough reason to take the game (too) seriously, at least, the PvP component. World tournament can earn you a decent amount of fame (and soon fortune too). But there are times to be serious, and times not to. If I'm on a limited time frame for a mission, I'll mention it, but I won't cry that we couldn't finish it in time, or that we got too hasty at one point since I can pick it all up later with my friends provided they don't mind coming along again.

Frankly, I don't really care. I've had a good game experience overall, and I never needed to come up with the most elite teams ever, or farm for the phattest lewt. If someone wants to become a champion, or live in a dream world where they think they're king because of the armor set they're wearing, let them. I don't like being shunned because I don't have a certain Hero rank, but that's fine, I'll take my arbitrary insight elsewhere and just have some real fun.

Those who are just plain happy with the game tend to keep quiet since they're too busy just playing the thing, you'll have to ask them in-game at random to get a real opinion out.

You missed my point. The answer wasn't the focus, the response was. I'm saying that if the OP asked this question in LA dis 1, then the response would be irrelevant to the question, so for the example you gave, it 'would' be a bunch of trade spam.

My point? The OP asked the wrong question, the response that the OP got was all spam...

The difference is that Mordakai didn't need to make a thread in order to get an answer to that question. Notice how your response to Mordakai's question was short? Is it possible to further discuss a person who has fun playing guildwars without leaving the answer as it is?

Vague questions give loose discussions that can't be tied together, this is especially so when the OP is uninterested in directing the thread... It's hard to say one thing, and then read another person's post that says something on another spectrum, and then expect yourself to relate to it...

Im at 1200 hours in nearly 16 months. Not too bad, considering quite a bit of it is being afk.

Its not really the game I like that much, its the community. I established quite a good connection with some of my fellow guildies, I dont see them as random ppl on the internet, but something much closer.
